WWILD – SVP Association Inc. and Community Living Association Inc. are presenting a forum on the issues for people with intellectual disability who are parents, and their engagement with Child Safety and the Family Law Court system. Many parents with intellectual disability are subject to child protection orders, have had their children removed by Child Safety or are in shared custody arrangements organised through the Family Law court. In some cases they have little or no access to their children nor much involvement in their children’s lives. Given the current Child Safety Review, WWILD and CLA felt it was an important subject area for debate and discussion amongst professionals who may be working with this group of people. This forum is targeted at service providers and policy-makers across government and non-government agencies and those interested in the wellbeing of families that include parents with intellectual disabilities.
Guest Speakers Include:
Sue Gill – Manager, Child Safety, Mt Gravatt Office
Dianne Pendergast – Barrister & Mediator, Former Queensland Adult Guardian
Tracey Moffatt – Advocate Manager, People with Disability
