Overview of Key Content: This talk aims to: (1) engage the audience in a deeper understanding of the epidemiology and presentation of age related disorders including the dementias in people with an intellectual disability (ID), (2) examine the possible explanations for the over-representation of dementia in this population group, (3) examine the application of the concept of ‘successful ageing’ in people with an intellectual disability and (4) propose positive steps which can be taken to improve health and well-being in older people with an ID.
